Winter Blues Postcards

Just before Christmas, I introduced the green screen to the class. To escape the snow and -30 temperature we made postcards. I selected some landscape pics graciously provided by the photographers at Unsplash. Students used QR codes for the first time to access my landscape pics on the Google Drive and so that they could access their profile on ClassDojo.

Here is my example:

After walking through the steps 21 times, I think that the class made some pretty great postcards. The most challenging part was finding the time to get all the students to complete their postcard and while being able to help them. Some students figured out how to use DoInk very quickly. Adding the background and green screen still was fairly simple for the class, but saving the picture to the iPad was challenging. Also, ClassDojo has a few steps that the students have to do to be able to post their picture to their parents.

We did have a few hiccups with the order you need to insert your images into DoInk. Some students put their selfie on the bottom slide and their background second. They were not quite knowledgeable enough to realize they needed to switch. The other challenge in DoInk, is saving their creation to the iPad. First, these are still pictures, so students had to switch the mode from Video to Image. Once they clicked save, they then had to find where you find the Save to Photos button. These little steps were not easily found, but we persevered. As you can see on the left, one student forgot to switch to Image mode. We were still able to send it to their parents on her ClassDojo portfolio.
